Following @europlatus mentioning it I gave Flow Launcher a try on the work-machines I have to use windows on. What a revelation! Especially combined with Everything!

That was my setup tooâŚI couldnât believe how incredible it was the first time. I moved to linux now and the default Hyprland with noctalia setup doesnât have the same functionality but I am looking stuff like FSearch.
Flow has a lot of nice things like you could just run > commands from it and many other plugins in its store.
Good olâ dmenu and its wayland variant can run commands, return output, allow your input on the output of the command, etc.
Check out some old Luke Smith videos on youtube about dmenu to get an idea of what you can do. Just a disclaimer that Luke is a controversial character but as long as you stick to his vim/dmenu etc vids you are alright.

Thanks for the suggestion I will give it a shot. I looked at the file-search plugin and walker so far and honestly I am happy there are so many choices that I can pick out of based on my own needs in the penguinland.

Once Iâd discovered it, I felt silly for suffering through many years of Windows Search and the Start menu. How many times had I tore my hair out trying to find a file that I knew existed, but I just didnât know where it was. Everything finds it in a nano second. And Flow Launcher just makes finding and launching so much easier.
Iâve noticed that my Windows machine is increasingly set up and working like my Linux distro these daysâŚ

The crazy thing to me is that windows (I think) 7 or was it 8 had the start menu search down! Searching files was fast and if i recall correctly typing math formulae calculated the result. And not the bing infested shitshow it turned into afterwards. Itâs gotten a bit better with 11 though.

Love to see Everything mentioned, it is simply great â you canât beat the speed of an indexed search, by definition. It even indexes external drives, though that causes a bit of a problem if you want to unplug it shortly after plugging in, as the indexer will prevent a safe removalâŚ
I also like to use the regex mode allowing some more complicated queries.

Fun video. I thought I knew almost everything about shutter tech but still learned a few things. The fact that for shutter speeds fast enough to require the second curtain to release early (âslit modeâ) the slit will widen towards the end of the exposure to ensure even exposure is fascinating.

Oh, that was interesting, indeed!
The difference between âreally sharpâ and âsharpâ. This is why at long focal lengths you should always use as fast a burst as you can. This is at 600mm APS-C, f8, 1/1250. Probably not even a millimeter moved between the two shots yet the difference in sharpness is really evident.

What new car feature you hate the most?
For me itâs most likely the speeding notification. A lot of the time it doesnât even show the correct speed limit and it beeps as soon as you go 1 or 2 kph over. I always turn it off (luckily itâs fairly easy using the steering wheel buttons).
Also, in the video â that eye monitoring apparently beeps when you check blind spots and stuff too (a comment said that), like huuuuh?? Is that not insane?
I donât own a car yet, but Iâm unsure what will I pick when it gets to the time of getting one. Older cars are cool, but maintenance could be a problem, as well as not knowing what hidden flaws youâre getting in a used carâŚ

Yeah, the meddling is getting ridiculous. Iâm the one behind the wheel, Iâm the one with the driverâs licence, Iâm likely the one with the full mental model of whatâs going on and why I do what I do, and Iâm the one responsible for whatever outcome. Get tf out of my face unless I specifically ask for itâŚ
Iâm quite happy to have bought this car before this nonsense got mandatory.

Wife and I both have 2015 Toyotas, she a Highlander, me a Tacoma. In mine, I push the A/C button, and the air conditioner comes on. In hers, you have to coax it to decide to turn on, and gawd only knows what fan speed itâll decide on to muss your hair with.
I think the push to self-driving cars is so folk wonât have so many accidents trying to figure out their infotainment systemâŚ

My instructor hammered it in my head to always turn my head and check the back passenger side right window when doing a roundabout to make sure there wasnât anyone there because the mirror isnât enough.
Most importantly, we know where accidents happen, there is plenty of data on it, itâs usually inside urban places (90% in portugal) by distracted or drunk drivers. I think 30km/h inside urban zones is a good measure, but everything else only functions as a mechanism to steal from the poor. Traffic fines should be based on your income and perhaps total wealth and be more strict.

Fortunately my 2021 Colorado doesnât have too many really meddling behaviors, but itâs annoying at times. Like the pointless programmed-in delays between turning the AC blower fan on and it actually starting to blow, slowly winding up the RPMs. I just LOVE that when after it sits on a 100F sunny parking lot for hours, rolled up tight. (NOT) Or the way the auto headlights randomly turn on under bright cloudless sunshine â and then refuse to auto turn off again. Or the 57 functions controlled by a single headlight control knob. Or the fact the audio EQ, balance and fade settings accessed only via the Infotainment screen wonât persist and must be manually reset EVERY TIME.
