Random thoughts and finds...

nope.

I picked up one of those silly tabletop tripods from a thrift store today…always been curious about them but never wanted to buy one at full price. $3 is less than a decent coffee, so I’ll see how I like it.

The resistance ended today, and another lens will be joining the fold tomorrow. I guess when I fall I fall hard.

Glad to hear you’re doing it right.

My random find of the week: I have cataract.

I also have (it recurs) allergic conjunctivitis, and, along with vision working differently to a few months back, it is not a good time for sight!

I don’t know the doc’s verdict until he can see me without allergy, but I guess it’s going to be operation time soon.

Anyway, making casual internet enquiries into techniques, costs, etc.

And I had to give myself a slap! I had to ask myself why I was complaining about the possibility of spending more on my sight than I did on my camera! Priorities were recognised immediately.

I had fast growing cataracts in both eyes, surgery on both last year. 15 minute procedure, painless. I got distant vision in both, need readers but really liking the distant vision.

Let me plug once again the Manfrotto MP3, of course more expensive, but a lot more discreet. It can also be used to hold your camera steady against something (railing, pilar,…) for a long exposure.

And while we are at it, another of my “finds” is a roll of “Magic chart” sheets. These things cling to any surface by a combination of static electricity and atmospheric pressure, and make an instant backdrop (demo above).

@Kadsura @Tim To some in my neighbourhood, weeds are food. We have a long and wide hydro (electricity) corridor that doubles as a pedestrian and cycling path that has lots of overgrown weeds including dandelions. I regularly see people harvest large bins of them.

The city saves money by manicuring the grassland (ahem: weed land) once in a blue moon. Terrible for allergy sufferers like myself.

Hobbit is also a unit. :stuck_out_tongue:

Dandelion is a fine salad ingredient, alone or in a mix. It’s supposed to have a diuretic effect, hence its French name.

The greens are fine…I’ve not once cared for the stems or the flowers as a salad ingredient.

Although I’ve heard of seriously awful outcomes, they have always been because the patient ignored and went against advice. Everyone else seems to be happy.

Subject to my doctor’s advice, I intend to opt for single-vision, distance lenses. The rest I’ll use specs for just like now.

I’m not looking forward to the event, but I am looking forward to afterwards

I am now on ZEISS lenses on both eyes. So much better - it is worth the money. For me it was about 1400€, but I was reimbursed by insurance.
Why is there no reimbursement after a lens purchase?

Have you heard of “The GIMP”?

If you have problems installing it, I have found a magazine article that describes the way perfectly on 4 pages.

I think I started to use “The GIMP” a year or so before that. It was an experience…

I remember trying to compile that new browser called “Mozilla” in 1998 for weeks until I figured it out.

Yes, there was always one library missing.

Can anyone recommend a good aurora forecast website for North America? I’ve been getting teased with weak results from the three I frequently check on. I know it’s not an exact science, but I sure would like one that can definitively state that there will be an aurora with a one hour margin of error.

Pardon the whinge…I just want to snap some pretty lights.

As long as the NOAA exists…
