Random thoughts and finds...

Ever edited a photo and thought - “well, this edit sucks!”, only to make a quick change and suddenly changed your mind completely…?

It usually works the opposite way for me…

Oh yeah thinking how good something looks only to be horrified by what you see the next day :joy:

For me it’s usually “This photo is a bit boring but I think I can make something of it.”

30 minutes later after some hardcore editing: “Yep, still boring. I want that 30 minutes back”

@europlatus , for me it’s more like “wait… whoa… what was I thinking? Did I compress that history yet?”

Am I the only one who gets mildly annoyed by extracting a zip file leaving you with a folder of files instead of … Well, just the files?
Like, I don’t want a box with another box inside!

Windows extracts files into a folder within a folder. That is why I use another application to handle archives. I.e.:

..\example.zip → ..\example\example\[files from example.zip]

WHY?

I’m using Windows since version 3.1.
The first thing I learned is not to ask WHY.
The only answer is: Bill gave it, Bill has taken it away. The ways of Bill are unfathomable.

Someone foolishly said Windows was getting better in the other thread. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: I only see changes being more inscrutable and confounding, having to continuously hack the heck out of the OS to get it back into an acceptable range. That goes out the window on the corporate computer (pun intended).

Again, a controversial statement: As much as people dump on Apple, at least it knows what it wants to do with its products. We the PIXLS community might not like it, but they are purposeful. Microsoft, not so much.

Get yourself 7zip and be happy. The built in zip extractor is terrible.

I’ll be contrary here, more than once I’ve been flummoxed by a .zip file that dumps the files into the cwd, then I have to pick them out of the files already there. And actually, it’s a function of the person who packed the .zip, if you look inside before unpacking you’ll find a directory at the top.

I’d rather unpack to a directory and then decide where to put them.

Same here.

A follow up tip is to get a zip or portable version if using a corporate computer. In that case, we cannot add it to the context menu, but having a toolbar shortcut is worth it.

Speaking of inscrutable, IT IS BACK!

My random find is that pixls.us has become one of the handful (too many!) forums that I visit several times a day

Might be an understatement in my case

I was recently thinking of possibly upgrading my laptop in the near future but you know what? I think I’m good. I don’t want a copilot+ computer.

I’m also still running 23H2 as I was not able to update due to one of my system partitions being nearly full and based on what I read, I’m glad I didn’t update my Windows yet.

Would go with that one:

Fortunately, Nespresso hasn’t yet invented proprietary coffee mugs. (but I’m sure they wish they could).
