RawTherapee 5.4 vs 4.2.1005

I see that RawTherapee is now up to version 5.4; I have 4.2.1005.
Using Windows 7 Pro.
Is it possible to install more than one version such that I can better compare the two ?
If I install 5.4, am I going to see a big difference ?
Thanks for reading and all help is appreciated.

The tools have been reorganized in different tabs and a few new tools have been added.

You can run 5.4 as a portable app if you want to try it before installing. RawTherapee Portable (advanced RAW image processor) | PortableApps.com

Hmm, I wouldn’t call it “a few” especially since coming from 4.2. The most obvious is the addition of “Auto matched tone curve” (together with the grown collection of high quality DCPs). And it should be much more stable and faster (the processing, not necessarily the UI due to GTK3).

You can install different versions. By default, they go in different directories.

If you want a portable installation you can also refer to Making a Portable Installation - RawPedia

Thanks everyone!

What is DCP ?

I suggest to work with a different copy of your images for each RT version because the .pp3 files have changed too.

DNG Camera Profile, see this one:

It is a good idea to read whole Color Management section.

And for more accurate description:

P.S. Welcome to Hell also know as the world of color management
