Hi, I tried to open the “High efficienty*” nef files of the new Nikon Z8, but the result is a completely black photo, on which no modification generates any result. I then tried to open a “High efficienty*” nef file from the Z9, and this time the file was read correctly. Since the files of the Z8 and those of the Z9 are practically identical, apart from the hexadecimal header that distinguishes Z8 from Z9, and given the great sales success of the Nikon Z8, a simple patch to the program would suffice to add the header of the files of the Z8 and allow the program to read these files. Can we hope for a minor update soon?

The file you opened from Z 9 was almost certainly not any variant of HE, but an “ordinary” lossless compressed NEF.
There could be an easy update for the Z 8 ordinary lossless mode though… (Samples are available on RPU.)
