i have 5.3 version of rawtherapee.
i shoot on af-s dx nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6g vr.
when i apply distortion correction to my picture in becomes blurry, so i manually search for my lens profile on the list and it’s not there. the lens profile rawtherapee chooses for me is different from mine.
what do i do?
Your lens is there (I’m using an old version of the lensfun database, the Windows builds use a newer one), and it does get auto-detected, so I’m not clear on what you’re doing or what the problem really is.
Exif.Nikon3.LensType Byte 1 D G VR
Exif.Nikon3.Lens Rational 4 18-55mm F3.5-5.6
Exif.NikonLd3.LensIDNumber Byte 1 Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II
ExifTool 10.69:

Wikipedia
Nikon first introduced the lens in 2005 and has provided three subsequent updates. Following are the four variants as of 2014:
AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED, released in 2005
AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II, released in 2006.
AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR, released in 2007.
AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II, released in 2014.
So either both ExifTool and Exiv2 are wrong, in which case you should report a bug to both ExifTool and Exiv2, or you are wrong about which model of lens you have.
@meadowlark
Running Rawtherapee 5.3 on Windows 10.
Your lens is correctly recognised by Lensfun as
NiKON AF-S DX VR Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G II
(Note that the order of fields in the lens name does’nt matter)
As far as I can see, the Lensfun distortion processing is correct.
For the same correction, you can also use Lens Correction Profile (LCP) from Adobe you can find after downloading DNGconverter_X_x.exe from adobe site (see How to get LCP and DCP profiles - RawPedia)
As all cameras/lenses combinations don’t exist, you have to choose a camera with same crop factor. Here I used
