Have you changed camera apps or used different settings? Some DNG versions and features are not supported yet.
Can you post a “bad” DNG here for us to try?
yep.
Same here: Galaxy s22 Ultra.
RawTherapee is unable to detect them and consequently they can not edited later on.
Tried both the 5.10 stable versione and the 5.11 beta upcoming version (RawTherapee_fastwin_nightly-github-actions-810-g2a8e549b7_win64_release)
For what is is worth: even DXO Photolab 7 (commercial software) is unable to edit them.
On the contrary, Windows Photo editor can visualize AND edit them just fine.
This being said, in all truth, the DNG produced by my Galaxy S22 Ultra are usually, IMHO, really bad…
Consequently, I only use this smartphone for taking jpeg pictures.
For serious stuff, I work with a Nikon D850 (NEF Raw files)
Here is a Raw file (just taken now without paying attention to the final results in terms of its quality). No password or log in to the service needed for downloading from Dropbox:

Samsung recently switched to latest DNG spec 1.7 using JPEG XL compression that is not yet widely supported: Samsung Expert Raw format DNG 1.7 · Issue #7028 · Beep6581/RawTherapee · GitHub
I’m not sure if this is of any help, but: I have a Samsung phone, but not an ultra. On my phone the default camera app does not support DNGs. So I use “OpenCamera” app as camera application. It can save DNGs even on my low-end phone, and those files work fine with RawTherapee (and image quality is surprisingly good).
It could be worth a try on your phone. If DNG saving is implemented in the app then perhaps the file format is still the same old one. At least mine still works with RT. OpenCamera is free, I’m not sure if it is open source.
It is FOSS
I also was unable to load newer Expert Raw images into my old Photoshop, affinity photo, Topaz editing apps, or any other graphic editing software on my PC.
Expert Raw images taken in the spring of 2024 work and load fine. Those taken later (after some sort of Samsung update) refuse to load.
I contacted Samsung support to see if they could help, or if they were aware of the problem…
Here is my exchange.

I am very upset! Older DNG files from Expert RAW will load into my PC graphics programs with no issue. Today I took some photos with Expert RAW and none of them will load into Affinity photo, Photoshop CS6, Topaz gigapixel. I am a pro shooter and I NEED to process images with my software. Others are having similar issues after your update. Here is one link that gives examples… Samsung Expert Raw .dng files are not supported after Expert Raw app update (3.0.06.28). Hi Andrew,
Thank you for contacting Samsung Canada customer care.
We understand your frustration as the Expert RAW photos won’t load into your software after the latest update. We regret the inconvenience.
In this case, please try the below troubleshooting steps which might fix the issue.
1. Perform a soft key reset on the phone and check the issue. This will refresh the internal circuit of the phone.
Press and hold the Power button and Volume Down buttons for 10-15 seconds. The phone will reboot.
2. Clear cache files for Expert RAW app.
Open settings >> apps >> tap on three dots >> show system apps >> Expert RAW >> Force stop >> storage >> clear cache.
If the issue persists, please write back to us with a short video clip showing the exact issue, so that we can review it and help you further.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Sylvester.

Hi Sylvester,
I did as you recommend. The problem persists.
I do not think you understood my message describing the problem.
Photos taken BEFORE the update that are in the expert RAW folder on my phone will load into my PC processing software without any issue.
I can transfer them from the phone to my PC, then open the files in graphic processing software on my PC without issue. I did this yesterday. No problem.
Photos taken AFTER the update will transfer to the PC without problem.
BUT all my graphic processing software complains that the files are not recognizable. I also did this yesterday. Newer photos are not recognized by my software. Older ones have no issue.
The update did something to the file format that renders them unrecognizable to several graphic software apps on my PC, and I am not the only one.
I sent you a link to ONE website where others complain of the same issue.
Clearing the cache does nothing to solve the issue.
uninstalling the software and reinstalling the software does nothing to solve the issue.
It is a file format problem.
The way the photo data was changed and now several people find that their graphic processing software will not recognize the files.
If there were a way to undo the update, reverting to a previous version and prevent the update from occurring again.... the problem would be solved, I am sure.
The file format has been altered and now many apps will not recognize the new format.
Thank you!
Andrew

Hi Andrew,
Thank you for describing the issue in detail.
We understand that photos taken after the update can't be recognized by graphic software, while older ones work fine.
In this case, we request you change the format of a RAW file to check if that is recognized by the software.
To convert a RAW file to a JPEG image file, open your RAW file in your chosen editing software. From there, simply make a copy of the file, save, and export it as a new JPEG image file.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Sylvester.

I am writing you because I am unable to open RAW files for photos taken after the app update, right?
I cant open them on my PC with the software I use for graphic processing.
So how can you ask me to open a RAW file and convert it to JPEG?
I cant do that. My software will not open the RAW files taken after the update, The software complains that the files are not recognized/incompatible/cannot be opened.
This is why I am writing you.
Andrew
Hi Andrew,
Thank you for writing back to us.
In this case, we recommend checking for software updates on your PC/laptop or using alternative programs that support these files.
We also suggest you try to access the RAW expert files on different PC software to isolate the issue.
Please write back to us if the above steps don’t fix the issue.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Sylvester.

Here are some links so you may discover that many others have the same issue. Your Expert RAW app used to generate files that many graphic processing software could open and process. After the Expert Raw update, they no longer find the DNG files open in the same software.

Hi @AndrewPugh welcome to the forum! Did you have a question or something we can help you with?
Guys,
Expert RAW isn’t RAW. It’s just jpeg in dng container.
You can get true raw with Motioncam pro and free and open camera app.
Motioncam is the best here and free for pictures. True RAW format works on any raw editor.
This is a common misconception. For a pro, updates make things different.
Can’t argue with that Hiram!
Matthew1, “jped in DNG wrap”, so true.
Yeah more and more phone companies do this which is so sad seeing what Motioncam can do with video and photos with true RAW and other apps like gcam and custom libs for it.
Samsung and Apple and Xiaomi too really are messing thinks up with whole “computational photography” thing.
