Hi,
I shoot with a reduced Newtonian (F3.65) and both an APS-C and Full frame camera (ASI2600MC and ASI2400MC). I get a bit of field distortion with the ASI2400MC. I capture with NINA so the .FITS have all the proper focal length and pixel size info as well as the target coordinates.
I shoot short exposures with a Goto Dob so with my L-ultimate filter, I don’t get a ton of stars but have never had much issue with registering and stacking although I did increase star sensitivity a bit with setstarfind in my current script as occasionally it rejected a small percentage of lights in star poor fields.
I’m going to update my scripts to stack with platesolving instead of my old 2-pass registration. I’m curious what you would recommend for the platesolve options, such as:
-
should I downsample by 2 for speed, or does this degrade accuracy?
-
Should I still increase star sensitivity or does platesolving increase the chance it’ll register already?
-
Anything special I should tweak on the distortion parameters?
-
My field of view is about 1.8 degrees and my mosaics are never more than 4 degrees wide, should I reduce the search radius for speed?
-
Since I shoot fairly short exposures with an L-Ultimate (not a ton of stars) should I change any other parameters such as limiting magnitude?
-
Anything else I’m missing?
Thanks for any tips!
