Rendering 3D - Polygonal Sphere vs Nice rounded Ellipsoid

Hello, It might be a feature request as well

I’m trying to make a planet from a paint/texture I did…
Rendering > 3D Image Object - Type > Sphere… see screenshot below :pensive:

On the over hand, in Rendering > 3D Colored Object - Type > Ellipsoid, the sphere is way better :+1: see screenshot below

Because it’s a colored object, it does not take my textured layer (the one in the BG)

Is there a way to add the Ellipsoid type to the → 3D Image Object filter, to have a better sphere using our texture?

I did tried Spherize it does not do the job for it, it’s very good as a lens effect, though.
Also Ball does not take the painted layer as “texture”

Any ideas to have our painted layer rendered as a nice sphere with the lights and shadows like the 3D Colored Object filter?

EDIT: BTW, in the filter 3D Image Object Type Torus, it does a great job :+1:
I don’t need it today, but it would be nice to have the sphere as smooth as this (see image below)

Makes sense for the later updated filter to be better. Ping @David_Tschumperle.

The rough aspect of the sphere is only in the preview, for speeding up rendering.
When applying the filter, the sphere is more “round”.

Now I feel very stupid as I did not apply, I thought it was wysiwyg (indeed it’s more smooth)

The reason that I went the CLI path was precisely because of the inaccurate representation of the GUI plugin.
