Repo backup (and Magic Lantern's story)

I went to visit Magic Lantern’s repo today and discovered that Bitbucket no longer supports Mercurial. Looks like the team had to scramble to backup as much data (many GBs) as they could within a year: forum thread. Hope they got everything and have found (or will find) a new home (soon).

Thoughts on repos, their hosts and backing up? What do you have in place for your code?

I’m relying on git to save my butt. I have a few Github repos, but they all are cloned to both of my local computers, so if Github were completely scraped off the face of the earth I’d just have to establish other upstream repos somewhere and push.

At least, GitHub has that arctic archive of theirs.

I have six or seven external disks, and I rotate two of them off site.
