Resizing cropped images adds background in export

I came across a weird thing today when exporting a batch of images. The cropped image was resized as if part of a full-size image, but the original (cropped) content around it was replaced with black in the resulting exported image. This was using the Fast Export (Shift-Ctrl-B) with a max width and height of 5000 px (to avoid down-sizing).

If I were to save it standalone using Ctrl-S, no such effect would occur, as the Resize option was inactive on that picture.

Given that I am a fresh user of RT that already has been burnt quite a few times by its alternative take on common photo editor UX, I was unsure whether this was a bug or a feature  In any case, I do not want the effect, so how can I avoid it when exporting using Fast Export?

Have you read Getting started?

From that page: Fast Export (low quality and bypasses some tools but fast saving - don’t use this for typical saving!)

You should put imaged in the batch queue, then process them when you’re ready.

And maybe read this answer in another thread:
