(Resolved) Advice needed to install DT on Linux Mint

I have just installed the latest version of MINT on a desktop. Unfortunately the flatpack option through software manager is not 5.4. How can I as a linux user of L plates install dt 5.4 on MInt. Help would be appreciated as Linux is still a new language to me.

  • Download AppImage
  • Put that appimage file wherever you want
  • Right click the appimage file
  • Go to ‘properties’ → permissions tab, check ‘allow executing file as program,’ press ‘close’
  • Double click appimage file.

Install Fedora instead of Mint…

Enable flathub. I thought it was enabled by default…

Thanks @gwbarn that worked so easily, but I am glad I asked. Linux is like a foreign language to me but I would love to move away from the dominance of microsoft.

Ditto re flathub. I’m on Linux Mint and have the 5.4.1 flatpak version.
You can also go to the flathub website https://flathub.org/en/apps/org.darktable.Darktable and install from there.

Thanks @Photoniker with the method suggested by @gwbarn I had to find the darktable file and select open each time. That was fine, but the flatpak from flathub has been installed via the software manager and I have placed an icon in the panel to click on. I appreciate the help from both of you.

I have the Appimage as an item in the favourites section in the menu. Small hassle when updating because I have to manually edit the menu entry but it’s there. You can pin it to the panel as well. Even before opening Darktable there are many ways to do one thing.

Did exactly that a year ago, never looked back. It started with LR problems making me look at dt. Then Trump came and I decided it time to move…

So I did, even my email has changed. No (a)socials anymore. Nicely quiet.

When working with appimages it becomes easy to make a play-raw install of dt or a test install separate from where you usually work.
