result smoother than preview

Hi, I edited a photo and applied rather heavy noise reduction. However, the result appears to be much smoother than the preview in RT. What is this? I have checked color management as well as file compression - appears to be none of it.

There is a post form 2016 about a similar issue but should’t this have been fixed by now?

I did another, different editing (noise reduction). This time, I did not reduce gamma and used conservative mode. Apparently, the difference is still visible, but barely.

Isn’t noise reduction one of the tools where you need the zoom to be at 100% to accurately see the effects of the tool?

Yes, it is 100%, as you can see in the screenshots. I probably used the wrong word. I did not mean that “preview”.

I too am curious about the answer, since I have a batch of very noisy images to do, and the more I can learn about NR, the better they will look.

Betazoid - did you do any image resizing when you exported the photo from RT? Because that can affect the amount of noise, also.

No resizing

I THINK it might be a bug in the “preview” of aggressive mode NR, but I am not sure. Well, if anybody wants to have my raw, pp3 and jpeg, let me know. I have been switching between conservative and aggressive mode and apparently there is no change, at least not visible in RT.
