I’m editing a picture where I’m trying to remove a couple of small branches on the edges with the retouch module and once I get the results how I want them, changing anything else often causes the results of the retouch module to change. First image in the original, second is getting retouch to clone out what I don’t want with default settings, third is after changing exposure getting a smudge like spot in the lower left corner(this is just an example, I’ve had other random changes in other areas from just from selecting other modules without making any changes. Any idea what is going on?
Is it in an exported file or just the preview… DT sometimes can have preview artifacts… just curious…
Those were screenshots, but on export it still had the same spot in the lower left.
Is it exposure you changed or brilliance by any chance and what version of DT are you on??
Please provide some basic info such as dt version, OS, etc etc.
This doesn’t happen to me too often anymore, but you just need to move the heal source shape around a bit or make it slightly larger.
Its darktable 4.2.1, using ubuntu 23.04, I’ve tried moving it around and changing the size but that was often causing changes as well so I just ended up resetting and turning off retouch to do again after I got everything else finished. I do feel like darktable has been a little slower since upgrading to ubuntu 23.04, not sure if this could be related to that. I had darktable 4.2.1 before upgrading ubuntu so I’m wondering if it may just be hoping theres an ubuntu update that will come out soon to make everything happier again.
It was just the regular exposure module.
Sometimes when working near the edge of the frame I find the clone option better than the healing option.
Please post the raw and the sidecar (xmp file).
Your original does not have anything in the bottom left corner that you removed, right? That is, the tool has no active healing patch there, correct?
There was a little bit of a branch in the lower left hand corner of the area that I cropped it down to. Since I had continued on with the editing I don’t have an xmp file in the same state so I uploaded both the xmp in its finished state where I was able to get the spot to disappear by redoing the retouch module at the end and a duplicate in its unedited state.

Same happens to me when I use the retouch module near the edges. I have found that it’s wise to use clone and not healing shapes.
I’m using the 4.3.0~git2424.e8d03322-10119.1
