RT 5.10 release in Debian natively

Hi all,

Does anyone know when RT5.10 will be available from the Debian repos (specifically Linux Mint 6)?

I know there is a Flatpak and appimage, however I have tried both and found issues where with relation to sending images to GIMP, whereas 5.9 works flawlessly. I suspect the problem is more about self-contained packages and how they work with system packages.

Cheers,
Baldrick.

Isn’t Linux mint in version 21 or so?

Thanks @paperdigits for your reply.

Yes, I think the Ubuntu version is at v22, but I’m using the LMDE v6 which is based directly on Debian.

This is the reason why I changed from Mint to Manjaro: the faster update process.

Lmde 6 is based on Debian 12. There likely won’t be am update directly for this release, I’d guess. Compile from source, appimage, or flatpak is the way

Thanks @paperdigits, tried all three now and for various reasons they all failed. Oh well, I guess I’ll have to hang with 5.9 as that one seems to run flawlessly with GIMP. The appimage is the one of the three 5.10 options that plays nicest, but GIMP looks butt ugly without icons and GTK working when exporting directly from RT. Thanks again though.

Footnote: I checked the Debian repos and it appears RT5.10 was advanced to testing (Trixie) late February, but I guess that won’t be any help to me while I’m using Bookworm, right? In other words, 5.10 will only be available to Trixie users once Trixie goes stable, not Bookworm users?

Right.

I assume for the appimage that gimp is missing some env variables or something similar. Maybe @Ofnuts or @rich2005 can advise.

That would be cool. Thanks.

I’ve tried to open Darktable through RT’s external editor and that seems to work fine, just not GIMP. Seems very odd.

EDIT: It seems the trick to compiling from source is to actually read the instructions first… I now have a fully working dev version that has been automatically compiled. Go figure!

So now all is well, thanks for your help!
