RT 5.12 loading NEF very blurry

Hi All, new to the forum. Using Rawtherapee 5.12, really like it. I came back yesterday from a Blues Concert and as a surprise the NEF ( raw) files are loaded terrible, huge amount of noise, unable to work on those. Other programs like Nikon NX Studio or Windows Foto Legacy are loading the same NEF right, wondering what setting or codec could affect loading a RAW file. Other raw files from the same day in the daylight etc are ok, other raw files in the past days even inside and dark situations are ok. THanks in advance for any hints. FG

Hi and welcome to the forum!

I’m not an RT user, but to help those who are, it would be useful if your could share a sample file that exhibits the problem? Perhaps also a screenshot of how it looks in RawTherapee would be useful.

Of course, let me upload one - I hope I do it the right way

Two screenshots attached. The one above is with rawtherapee, the one below with Foto Legacy Windows . Jpeg in rawtherapee is ok

Thanks! Could you attach an actual .nef file too?

Here it is thanks.

Out of interest, I reinstalled RawTherapee and loaded your sample.
As far as I could tell, the main issues are noise from the high ISO, and more importantly, colours going out of gamut due the LED lighting.

After lowering the exposure a little, I applied the new gamut compression module which makes a great improvement. You can then apply noise reduction and any other tweaks.

Thank you Steven, the Gamut Compression is what I needed !

I consider this solved, thanks again for sorting this out so quickly.

Glad I could help! The credit goes to the RT team for all their hard work.

I recently shot a 3-day music festival. I hadn’t realized what a PITA those LED’s were. I’m going to take a look at editing at least some of those files using gamut compression and see how they look. This is helpful information.

Hi Rick, yes, true! I had to shoot a chamber music festival a few weeks ago and to my finding LED is stage lighting out of hell. It’s inconsistent and the electronic shutter of my mirrorless cameras is prone to show banding under it - not good. Greetings, Kay
