RT_sRGB gamma sRGB(IEC61966 equivalent)

RT 5.4 on Manjaro.

I’m importing 31 tiff exports into gimp 2.10 as layers, and for every image GIMP has to convert to the regular sRGB.

  1. Where’s the sRGB color space?
  2. What’s the difference between RT_sRGB and sRGB?
  3. What the implications of the conversion? What gets lost?

Thanks

You don’t have to do the conversion, you can keep the current profile by clicking Keep.

The RT_sRGB profile is an sRGB profile, there are probably many sRGB profiles. @Morgan_Hardwood explained the differences once here, but I can’t seem to find that post.

You probably won’t loose much in the conversion, since they’re both sRGB.

Unless you are an ICC profile enthusiast, you won’t be able to tell the difference. I generally keep the previous profile like @paperdigits said. What is more important to me is elevating the bit depth to float or at least 16-bit (and optionally using linear).

I moved this thread from the RT category to the GIMP category.

There are many types of sRGB profiles. In fact @jdc just implemented an ICC profile generator in RT, and we updated all of our ICC v2 profiles and included new ICC v4 profiles.

Can someone link to documentation which explains the specifics of what “GIMP built-in sRGB” is?
