RT's output TIFF is much less denoised then the preview suggests - why?

Hello photo friends!

I am an occasional RT user, so not deep into it. What often puzzles me is the fact that when LAB denoising a picture, the zoomed in preview inside RT gets breathtakingly clean denoised, but the subsequently exported (handover) TIFF shows much less “effect”. Shouldn’t the preview reflect exactly what the export result is supposed to be? Is there an idea what might go wrong in my case, or is it a well known behaviour?

RT 5.8 installed from the standard repositories

Regards!

Hello @wood_gnome, and welcome!

Silly thought: are you watching the de-noise result in RT at 100%?

Have fun!

Hi Claes! I do not yet get the “silly” aspect of Your question. :innocent: I usually inspect a picture at 200%, 400%, or 800%, this means the preview offered by RT as well as elsewhere in other software (Darktable, GIMP), as long as it is about judging adjustment of filters like denoise.

Anything but 100%, or 1:1 will be resampled, and depending upon the resample algorithm, things like noise may not be well-represented.

Okay I understand and partially agree, but at 100% preview and watching the exported data @ 100% the phenomenon remains the same. A pity there seems to be no option for a picture upload here.

Hi, @wood_gnome, and welcome to the community! You can upload pictures:

The upload button is on the bottom right of the post-edit — the little icon with an up-arrow.

Should be able to upload your raw and sidecar so others can see if they see the same thing…

I’s almost midnight here, so a better time for reevaluation might be tomorrow or the next days. Good night You all, and many thanks again!
