Alright guys, I need some help. When I export my files to GIMP and when I process an image through the queue, it seems to lose the cool HDR effects (ie - it loses the fine details) It’s really frustrating me…What am I doing wrong? I will attach pictures for clarification. In picture one, this is a cropped screenshot of what it looks like in raw therapee and in pic 2 is what gimp pulls it up as. There isn’t as much detail in the second.
Are you using the fast export queue? It has it’s own settings.
I’ve tried both. I’m pretty new to editing, so I have my knowledge limitations for sure. Any suggestions as to what a newbie should be doing? The pictures look incredible in RT, but look MEEEEH in GIMP. It gives me the “GIMP can only handle 8 bit” message when I export it to GIMP.
There is a pallet and paint brush button near the bottom, left hand corner of the image window when you’re editing an image, clicking that opens the image in GIMP, have you tried that?
Otherwise, can you provide a step by step of what you’re doing?
Yes. I get the image exactly how I want it in RT then I hit that button and send it to GIMP. When it opens in GIMP, the pics don’t look horrible, but they just lose a lot of the fine detail that gives it the clean HDR look.
It looks so crisp in RT. Even when I send it to the queue and export it that way it does the same thing that GIMP does; loses the fine details
What happens if you save it as a tiff then open it in GIMP? How about if you open the tiff in another application?
What would another good application be? When I open it in windows picture viewer it looks the same as it does in GIMP
If you’re using linux, Geeqie, if you’re on windows, xnview or irfan view, if you’re on mac, preview should do it.
I’ll give those a try and get back with you! thanks!
If that doesn’t work, we’ll need way more detail to help you. Take a look at writing a good bug report.
Nah, IrfanVIEW looks the same way. Here is a side by side of GIMP on the left and RT on the right. This is no editing in GIMP. I pressed the little paintbrush button and then compared the two side by side. There is a notice difference
Are you using the most up-to-date version of RawTherapee?
Yes, I just deleted what I had and downloaded 4.2.1148 (Fast)
Here is my PC details:
Have you cleared the cache?
I have not. I don’t really understand how to do that. I clicked the link, but I’m still confused as to how to do it.
In the AppData folder, there should be a rawtherapee folder. Delete that folder while RawTherapee is closed.
I tried that, and it still appears the same way. Is it because GIMP can’t handle a 16-bit vs and 8 bit tiff file, maybe?
Just read the friendly manual.
