In the current discourse around “AI” even mentioning the two letter abbreviation is almost sure to cause knee-jerk reactions from all sides.
Categorically saying no to local ML based denoising, mask generation and keyword tagging just because Altman is ripping off artists and destroying the planet with his data centers would really be throwing out the baby with the bathwater IMO.
In fact, it would be amazing to have something like the newly demonstrated RawRefinery denoising in darktable if only it could be cleanly implemented. I’m not sure that’s possible right now though. If anything, it would probably be too slow to be bearable. @hanatos seems to be on to something in vkdt though.
It’s impressive, but also, at the same time almost strangely unimpressive. I’ve got to ask… Did you experience any sense of accomplishment or satisfaction after picking your twelve words, downloading the file and putting your signature in the corner of that generated image? I don’t think there’s a right or wrong to that question, but it could reveal our true motivations. To me, this question goes as deep as the meaning of life itself. Is it about that famous journey or merely the destination? Call it academic silliness or not…
Also, there are a lot of pixels in that file but barely any details. It looks quite horrible at 100%. Is Nano Banana Pro upscaling 1K images?
