Where is option for changing how icons hover when clicking on them ?
Is this the Toolbox âMenu modeâ that shows in Gimp 2.10 just under the Use tool groups toggle ?
I cannot find it in Gimp 2.99.12
It might be there somewhere / missed out / considered not required by the devs.
That was roughly what I indicated. You can post a bug report at Issues ¡ GNOME / GIMP ¡ GitLab asking for the menu entry
fixed
EDIT: Is it a similar problem as this ? https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues/7024
In the meantime, a bit of digging, it looks like âShow on hover in single columnâ is the default.
To change to either of the other two, âShow on clickâ / âShow on hoverâ, add the appropriate line
(toolbox-group-menu-mode click)
(toolbox-group-menu-mode hover)
to the Gimp 2.99 User profile gimprc file.
In my installation, that is ~/.config/GIMP/2.99/gimprc but it might be somewhere else ~/.var/app/org.gimp.GIMP/config/GIMP/ for example.
âŚand this works here, (sorry, I got the ~/.config/GIMP/2.99/ label mixed up. Too much hasteâŚetcâŚ)
It doesnât work for me. Iâve added in every gimprc file Iâve found.
I want that subicons stay when you hover on the icon.
More digging around and the user gimprc file overwrites and any edit is lost.
Look like you are out of luck.

Edit: A right mouse click still works and brings up the drop-down menu for switching tools. Might not be very convenient if using a graphics tablet.

Post that bug report.
