I love the photography showcased in this topic and wanted an easier way to quickly see just the photos themselves, so I’d thought I’d use my DD Photos open-source gallery software to create per-topic albums.
I decided to pick the 33 most recent topics that had three or more photos. The result is hosted for free at Cloudflare pages:
I think the result is pretty cool and a good way to see the breath of photos posted in this forum. Each photo links back to its PIXLS.US member and the original post.

So you thought it appropriate to use other’s images on your personally/company controlled website in order to show off your software? Without their permission.
You do not have permission to use any of my images unless explicitly released under an appropriate license. Remove any infringing images immediately.
This raises the following question: “What license applies to images posted on pixls.us forums (by default)?” I don’t think I’ve seen any terms of use for the site that stipulate that posted images automatically become CC-BY (if that were the case, the OP’s site wouldn’t pose any particular problems actually).
In principle, by default, the photographer therefore has the right to decide how their photo should be used.
What does this mean then? I’ve seen it mentioned a few times, but I don’t think I understand it fully yet – might’ve been some exceptions? Idk, I’m almost never sure when it comes to copyright…

This would seem to confirm that using images posted on the pixls.us forum on another website is not really a problem, as long as it is not for a commercial project and the image’s source is properly cited.

Even though there’s a /tos#3 it didn’t work… But yeah, the OP’s site should be fine then. Also, that begs the question (that must’ve been asked before) – is the license statement in PlayRaws really needed?
Interesting. It was my understanding that non-commercial also encompasses OSS and even charities IF the use is for marketing or promotional activity? The legal team for a local 501C-3 still required getting a license for images which were released under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0.
I would say to please not use the name or logo mark of PIXLS please.
It could possibly lead to an erroneous conclusion that this is an ‘official’ part of the project. Or at least make quite clear that it is not affiliated with pixls.us officially. Thank you!
I would also be very careful to check any licensing as described by posters in their showcase posts. A more specific license may be specified by a poster.
The CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 is non-revocable as per definition. You’ve agreed to the ToS stating that your work is licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, so if you want to use a different license, you need not upload your work. A supplied conflicting license will be considered ineffective
I would say yes, but then if your post is a PlayRaw, then those two things don’t work together and you post would have to be removed.
We ask for a license statement so there is explicit knowledge by the poster of what their licensing their work under. Precisely because nobody reads the ToS, etc.
It’s a nice gallery and a nice presentation. The only other thing I’d note is that I don’t think it is in keeping with the spirit of the community to drive traffic away from this site for our content.
Yeah, besides PlayRaw, of course – that would be a worthless post. I meant stuff like the Showcase category or Capture challenges by Darix.

Thanks paperdigits. I’m not trying to drive traffic away from PIXLS.US - every album description and photo caption links back specifically. If someone wants more context about a photo these links take them back to the site.
I also like this way of presenting an overview. It could be a nice addition to filter what type of images I am interested in. I think it has an interesting use case.
