Siril 1.4.0-beta3 on Mac Sequoia: some drop-down menus not opening; inconsistent window behavior

Hi, all. I’m running Siril 1.4.0-beta3 (build 14364) commit 7d0a3c0 on a MacBook Pro running MacOS Sequoia 15.6 and an M1 Max processor with 32 GB of RAM. I just started using it with a fresh install yesterday. I’m using it with two displays—the laptop’s built-in display and a ViewSonic external monitor.

Two issues, with a couple of sub-issues in each:

  1. Certain drop-down menus are not opening consistently or at all.

1.a. For example, when I go to Scripts > Siril Script Files, I can see and choose the included Siril Scripts just fine. But when I select Scripts > Python Scripts, just below that, most of the time no scripts appear, but if I move the Siril window to the laptop’s built-in display, the Siril Catalog Installer script appears after clicking the menu, and from then on it will appear no matter which display I’m in.

1.b. However, when I try the Spectrophotometric Color Calibration process, the White Point Reference, OSC Sensor, and OSC Filter menus do not show any drop-down items, while the Photometric Star Catalogue menu does have two Gaia options. This does not seem to be an issue of the window being too narrow; I’ve made the menu full-screen, and those three menus still show no items to select.

  1. Windows don’t always appear or open to the correct size.

2a. Upon initially creating them, the separate windows that appear for things like the Siril Catalog Installer and Spectrophotometric Color Calibration will often disappear from the display I have the main Siril window in, and they hide in the other display. I can find them using Mac’s “Mission Control,” but it puts them in the other display while pressed. Not a big deal, but a hassle.

2b. Other times, when they initially appear, they are only a fraction the needed size (that is, not displaying the full window) and can’t be resized with the cursor dragging the corner. After moving them from one window to another (see 2a, above), they often become full size and are fine from then on.

The most pressing issue for me is the lack of drop-down items in the menus like for Color Calibration. Am I supposed to download all of the OSC sensor and filter files manually, or are they included?

Thanks for any help.

Multiple screens are problematic (the underlying toolkit doesn’t handle them very well on macOS) and cause issues with window and menu behavior. That is something we cannot fix from within Siril.

Workarounds you can try are:

  • do not mix normal and hidpi screens
  • do not use multiple screens
