Anyone got any plans to capture the solar eclipse this evening? (UK, Europe, Greenland and a bit of North America)

I didn’t plan much but have produced a very questionable homemade filter of smoked glass. Apparently this blocks a lot of visible light but may be letting a dangerous amount of infrared through, so I’m not putting my eyes anywhere near it!

On a 300mm lens on the Olympus EM5ii it’s working surprisingly well however. Not going to leave the camera pointing at it for any length of time in case it heats the sensor, but this shot 30min ago was at ISO200, f11 1/500th so a very respectable exposure time.

Now just need to wait for this evening!

Yeah, I will try to capture it as well, although no totality, only 96% here :frowning:

Currently cloudy… we’ll see how the weather evolves during the day

We have “only” 89%, no clouds so far. But I think I’ll simply wait for your photos. :grin:

Hi everyone, I was in France in 1999 near the city of Arras, where the eclipse was 100%…
It was the most amazing experience—even though I didn’t have any camera equipment. Just seeing it in person was enough.
Even now, I’m looking forward to seeing even that 90.6% here in West Flanders, Belgium.
I’m setting up a D7500 with a 300mm lens and a solar filter attached. Hopefully, I won’t end up with any botched photos!

In SE England, 91%, I plan to take photos at 5-minute intervals with a 50mm lens on a tripod. Then combine them so I get the path of the sun towards sunset, and the path of the moon across it. Pretty much as I did last spring.

Here is a post on my inexpensive telescope adapter for viewing pre-post totality. I used a piece of cardboard (with holes) to reduce incoming light.

We’re scheduled for 85% tonight in northern Germany. But I’ll probably just watch, without taking any special photos.

I booked a train before I realised there was an eclipse during the journey time… and I don’t have any safe way to view it
