[solves] digiKam often freezes when I watch videos

Hello,
digiKam often freezes when I watch videos with digiKam’s internal media player and quickly switch between videos. SMPlayer has no problems with this 4K, h265 videos.
Version 8.6.0 is available as a repo on Debian. AppImage 8.8.0 is better. But even here, digikam often freezes completely and you have to force quit it.

This is my hardware: ASUS TUF Z390-Plus Gaming, CPU: Intel Core i7-8700k, Intel-HD-Graphics-630, 32 GB RAM.

The system does not have SWAP because I use zram.

Is freezing a known weakness of digiKam, or could something be changed in the system so that digiKam no longer freezes?

In the digiKam settings under Miscellaneous-> System, disable video hardware acceleration; this is likely a problem with the graphics card/driver combination.

Hallo,
The new, latest version 9.0.0 is much more stable. Problems with video playback are now rare, and when they do occur, they are only temporary; digiKam does not freeze completely. A real improvement.
