Another week, another script from yours truly. This time it’s a tiny utility I run whenever I head for a photo walk. Hope you’ll find it useful.

This is pretty awesome, I’ve been looking up sun rise/set times on my phone, but this looks better!
For what it’s worth, I use an Android app “Exsate Golden Hour”, which shows not only times but angles overlaid on a map. I’ve used it to pre-choose locations and days/times that should have good angles and light to shoot moonrises etc. All that’s left is for me to improve my captures!
Yeah, I know it’s not FOSS, but…
I use SunCalc
Other useful resources:
For sun and moon info
For weather, sun/moon rise/set/transit including different levels of cloud cover, precipitation type and probability, temps, wind, etc.

Thanks Dmitri, I won’t be adding “just another golden hour app” recommendation, though let me suggest something that may add to your script. Looking at this nice reminder to charge the batteries before going out I found myself thinking that I would be pleased to be reminded timely to do that. So you might want to create an app with some sort of reminder , like “hey, your shooting is in 00:00 hours from now. your batteries need to be charged, don’t forget to attach a tripod platform and pack a sandwich, etc.”
Hi Alex,
Thank you for not adding yet another golden hour app.

Great idea! I’ll see if I can implement it.
Best,
Dmitri
