Sony A7IV Color Calibration

Hi all,

Just a short post to describe how I have overcome the awful colours initially presented when opening raw files from my A7IV, without (yet) owning a colour checker.

Fortunately the dpreview A7IV review downloadable image quality sample includes a colour checker and option to download the raw file. I…

  • downloaded the file

  • converted it to DNG because it was compressed

  • Cropped the image (i know, it’s not central…)

  • Calibrated against the colour checker, FYI the expected vs actual colours were way off.

  • Save the calibrated Color Calibration as a preset to be applied to all my raws

The result is certainly good enough for me, an enthusiast family photographer. Also having seen the great result of my fairly bodged attempt, I should go buy a colour checker…

I don’t own this camera nor am I going to. But I’m curious about these awful colors. I used to have this problem too in the times of base curve and display referred. But these are fortunately gone.

This is what the studio scene looks like with my default settings + a little bit tone-eq tweaked. Doesn’t seem to be too bad for me.

You propably have some examples for your colors problem?

Imaging-resource also has series of test images at different ISO which includes a colorcheker A7IV Test Images
