Spot white balance - I am having trouble

I am using RT 4.2 on Ubuntu / Linux and I shot in RAW with a Canon 60D.

I took a picture with a white background , but the raw file has a bit of a blue tint off white on the white background.

I thought I could fix this by just clicking on the spot white balance pipette, but when I do this it appears to have no effect.

If I save the file as a jpeg and then edit in GIMP, the equivalent tool …colours / levels / pick white balance with a pipette works fine.

Am I missing a trick, what am I doing wrong ?

Regards

Phil

Hey

RawTherapee handles the Canon EOS 60D via camconst.json. That means high quality, so any error on RT’s side is extremely unlikely.

You cannot correctly set the white balance by sampling a pixel which has clipping in any channel in any program. You need a sample an unclipped pixel which should have no hue - that’s why white balance cards are grey.

Picking a white point with the levels tool has nothing to do with white balancing, though it can mask the problem.
