Although spring is the season of colours, I like to set myself challenges, and one of them has been to think of some black and white photos processed with darktable. This photograph is one of those challenges. I don’t think it’s a great one, but I don’t think it turned out too badly in the end.
I don’t feel I have done a very good job with this but I decided to experiment with using just the color zones module to convert to monochrome. I picked various color zones to lighten or darken and then destaurated (reduced chroma) of the whole image. This method might have some potential but maybe not the best for this image. At first, I darkened everything again - something I seem to be doing to everything these days. Inspired by the Stones: “I see a red door…”
But I did leave that diagonal line on the horizon bright.
Still, it didn’t exactly evoke a sense of spring - so I made a second version, much friendlier and lighter.
Thank you all. I like how different it can be and how it definitely helps me understand it better. I particularly liked the two by @Vulpy, especially the first one, really nice done for my taste.
Since I’m with darktable I used to process bnws with mostly two modules, tone curve and color equalizer after turn monochrome on, and depending on the type of image.
