Stonehaven fireball at Hogmanay

I have already published a few of my shots of the fireballs, but here is one to play with.

I set the camera for auto-ISO, to allow me to use a moderately fast shutter speed. However, this means that the images are quite noisy. I have done the best I can, but I am sure that others can do better.

nice one! used vkdt with neural denoise, added back some grain to make it look less fake, tried to get some detail out of the fireball. used dt ucs instead of agx since the highlight desaturation of agx made flames disappear.

You’ve also repositioned the fireball
@epeeist , did you mean to attach _CTW6594.NEF, perhaps?

Hi, I have the Sony A7 iV. I also use the auto iso for night shots. I’m able to set the maximum iso which helps a lot, (trial & error tested). I shoot shutter priority which I usualy set to a minimum 150 to 200. I get pretty good results. I think cloning out some of the sparks in the barrier and crowd plus a little less brightness may be good. Well captured though, must have been a decent shutter speed.

A few basic adjustments and filmicRGB was all it took.

A darktable AgX attempt. I forgot to denoise.

DT 5.4 AgX. Was unsure about the crop I decided upon.

I did, but since people seem to be happy processing the raw file I did post, I’ll leave things as they are.

Greetings!

In a subsequent version, I have used chroma-only noise reduction, as recommended by @kofa. This seems to fix the problem.

Oh, I didn’t realise that local contrast compressed the highlights and took away the brightness of the fireball, turning the brightest parts into light grey instead of white.
