Linux/darktable color management question:
My current monitor has a Display P3 coverage of around 97%. I am using KDE in wayland, SDR with the built in color profile, which reads EDID data from the monitor.
The Display P3 test file works fine in darktable when I set the display profile to Display P3, if I use the system display profile it stops showing the test pattern. I guess this is expected due to a missing implementation to correctly read the wide gamut profile that KDE is using from the EDID data.
Now, the question is: Is the test pattern being visible a confirmation that the wide gamut is working? When I use the soft proofing mode to SRGB, the red of the image becomes more muted and the pattern is no longer visible. @bastibe if I may ask, what happens when you toggle the soft proofing(srgb) on? Do you also see the muted red?
Another tidbit: When I select ‘system display profile’ the deep red is still showing, but the pattern is gone… So strange
