I chose not to overwork this image. I applied a picture style based on Provia fuji film that I use a lot. I then used a tone equalizer approach to recover some more shadow and highlight detail. Finally an AgX adjustment to set the white and black points using the auto tune levels picker. I wanted to keep the shadows dark and blue. But. a warmer rendition would also be a good approach.

Nice I have friends at the university and my daughter worked out there one summer…I need to get out and take in the wonderful scenery…

Started off by using DT to create 2 images (one brightened and the other darkened to use for the sky). I then creatively blended in the GIMP and applied, selectively, a few G’MIC presets. and voila.

I like it too, but it is definitely ‘a bit more’ then ‘a bit’ overcooked… (in my eyes…)
And yet I am very fond of your edits!
And maybe that’s the case for me too. I might not be daringly enough in my edits…
It’s PLAY Raw, you can do what you like to do. Just like the edit above or this one…
I think you have to differ what purpose your edit is for.
My personal view is:
Are you editing your pictures for documentary reasons, they have to be as realistic as possible (Many think that pictures with low dynamic range and pale colours look realistic, I don’t agree on that in general, but that’s a different discussion)
If you edit pictures for your memories, It’s allowed and wanted, that you work in śome of your feelings that you had at the moment of the capture. A sunset often gets a bit warmer and more dramatic, just because you enjoyed the moment. This is just like the bottle of wine you brought with you from holiday. At home you often think you remember it to taste better.
So working in some emotions is still realistic, even if it looked a bit different when you took the photo.
Then there is Art or Play RAW. These are playgrounds. Everything is allowed.
It’s the place where you can try out new things or extreme edits or whatever you like.
In my opinion it is not allowed to mix things up. Working in some emotions in a picture doesn’t mean you should work in the emotions you would have likedto have at that moment. So if I edit a photo from my holidays and there was for example an annoying drone which ruined my sunset feeling this drone will for sure remain in my pictures. And if I was really annoyed of it you can bet on, that the colours are less intense and dramatic than they would have been without the disturbance.

Agree, although for me personally it is not easy to take the full freedom… probably I’m saying ‘I aint no artist’ here or close to that
Why would not you allow yourself to do so?
I can imagine it to be a conscious choice to alter a picture opposite of your annoyance at the time of taking the picture. You’ll anyhow will always be remembered of this annoyance through the picture.
And just as well alter a very nice dreamy situation into a spooky one can be rewarding too.
Another re-do. Bluer, and deeper shadows (but still brought up some from the original image).
