Swift play with the Channel mixer...

Hi all,

The last days’ discussions about the Channel mixer module in darktable have been very interesting.

I just shot a daffodil, brought in from the garden. Handheld, lens 40mm/1.8 Hexanon at full opening. I know, I should have used the tripods and a reflector &c &c, but actually, for this experiment that would not matter that much.

Here is the daff before…

… and now after the Channel mixer module.

Quite an interesting effect, don’t you agree?

Channel mixer settings:

destination gray
red 0.180
green 0.072
blue -0.226

blend mode lightness.

Have fun!

I found this short video and this may be one of the best demonstrations that I have come across…its from affinity but really it could be any software…he does a great job so for those still a bit perplexed I think this is really great https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgTLw31PVNs

Neat effect!
I reedited an image from last year, which was a bit lacking in punch.

So a quick application of channel mixer, using similar settings applied to grey channel via lightness blend mode, and it looks a heck of a lot more interesting!

There are three color presets in the Channel Mixer that can give nice punch some times…ie the color boost contrast boost and artifacts boost…I sometime test them when I am looking for some stronger color or contrast…
