Swings and Roundabouts

Although the vantage point was right, I end up feeling as if the shot itself is not right in the first place. Here’s what I did with it:

Hi there, this is my very first attempt (at least since I have memory  ) to play on someone else raw so here my result.

I liked the general appeal of the photo, it’s softness and colors but I couldn’t say for sure what the main subject was so:

  • cropped to remove left side objects that were stealing my attention and give the child a more relevant position
  • tuned a bit perspective due to all these lines in the composition
  • white calibration as it seemed to cold to me
  • pushed up a bit those nice colors
  • added just a few of contrast on edges
  • denoised to have smoother surfaces to counter-balance ISO 1600
  • worked

Thanks for this nice photograph @Sai_Deepak!

I must confess that at first I did not feel like taking part in this play-raw at all as I could not connect to the picture. I saw the loneliness of the boy of course. But also a - in my first impression - very cluttered picture. I simply did not know what to do with it.

Somehow I followed the others playing around. And today I decided to develop as I thought was best. My, that did not work out at all! I had chosen a vast crop - to get ‘rid’ of ‘clutter’. Gone was the beauty of the picture.

So after some trial and error this is my result. I started to love the picture better every time I took a ‘wrong’ turn. I even tried to retouch out smaller parts. Did not work out as well.

Straightened lines
Emphasized the saturated colors of the play-tools
Left soft tones soft
Enhanced contrast except for the boy
Cropped a bit
Bits of local contrast
Framed

Thanks and hope you like it.
