Since the official Tamron Lens Utility is not available on Linux, and I am in desperate need of changing the customizable button on my lens to AF-MF switch while not installing a whole stack of qemu/kvm and Windows crap, I made this:
And yes I acknowledge that the software is developed with agentic coding, but it is under supervision, and as far as I can test on my own 17-50 and 25-200 lens it works so far.
Personally I would not, for the following reason: a GUI is much more costly to maintain and subject to a higher rate of bit rot. The maintainer will find that the GUI part needs to be upgraded because the original was written using GadgetWidgetGizmo 1.4, and now that GadgetWidgetGizmo 3.6 is out, the GadgetWidgetGizmo maintainers dropped support for 1.x.
This means continuous maintenance work even if the core functionality remains the same. Projects with a GUI are much more likely to be just abandoned.
