Text along path - different text widths

I know how to create text along a path (in a circle for example) but I’m wondering how to make the text a different width on the inside of curves. See the attached picture as an example. The font is skinner on the inside of the curve.

Can this be done in GIMP??

I wonder … if the text is in its own layer and its size is, say, half as tall as the example text, can the path text be changed, that is, can skew, or some other deformation, be applied to “pull” the text toward some central point?

At least that’s how my mind is working.

The standard text-along-path function of Gimp does this.
