Here’s a somewhat experimental take, which didn’t turn out very experimental…done in RT and Gimp:

This was really fun, thank you! I used Raw Therapee 5.7 (for the very first time!) and after clicking just about every setting, this is what I ended up with.

Great work everyone. I like @anon41087856 @msd versions the best. The other attempts are very nice, but the colours make me think of Africa more than cold, wet, and (at the moment) dark Sweden.

@clennep What is the line for?

My attempt using DT3. I tried to mask out the horse to brighten it a bit. Did a rough drawn mask, but then failed while refining it with parametric method :pensive:

Very dark in the original and therefore not so easy to get a good exposure setting in raw processing. I tried it with darktable 3.0.1 and filmic workflow. Only a little bit color grading with the Color Balance module.

Beautiful scene!
I went for something a bit more muted and muddy. Mostly to taste, partly as a technical experiment. My horse isn’t as clear as others, but the scene has nice balance. Done in darktable. Resized in photoshop to test a technique.

Question: Are people here happy to clip any of the R, G, B channels individually so long as the grey is not clipping?

It really depends on the photo in question. For this photo, seems like it’d be in necessary.

My quick edit, tried to keep it somewhat natural, emphasizing on the light and color hues coming from and in the sky and keeping the smooth effect of the morning mist.
