the idea being light spills around the black card giving a rim light with a black background. Face is exposed with aperture and speedlight is quite high, let me go check, yep 1/2 power.
Setup got me most of the way there and finished off in darktable with multiple exposure instances and lots of masks.
That is actually a very cool idea. I have never heard of this technique despite decades as a professional photographer. I wish someone taught me such a simple technique 45 years ago. I will have to share this ide with my students. Thanks
