I wanted to try out a new trick with colour zones and overlay blend mode, then I got bogged down masking the bird for background darkening.
Also used my ‘highpass + pinlight’ trick; gives a little extra to the brightest areas. (On the tail feathers in this one)

Used G’MIC’s depth map construction to vcreate a faux depthmap to separate the subject from background and applied dehaze to the background blended with original a bit. Enhanced the colors, too.
