Hello. Why does the software take so long to process thumbnails as versions advance?
Can’t it just save a mini thumbnail ?
Is it slow to generate all thumbnails at startup, or it’s slow to generate individual thumbnail? If it’s the former, it’s probably because of the newer Rawtherapee checks sub-folders, and if you have a lot of sub-folders, it might be slow. You can change sub-folder depth and max sub-folder to a low value to speed things up.
Thank you for your answer, It is slow to display each thumbnail and depending on the camera slow for a nikon d2x very very slow for a Nikon d800 and depending on the number of modification added.
OK, then I’m not sure what’s going on. Maybe a dev can provide some insights. But it might be helpful to post you operating system, what version(s) of Rawtherapee and maybe the CPU you’re using.
Dell xps ll / i7 / 3,6ghz / 12gb
It quickly opens the thumbnails and then processes each thumbnail one by one for each treatment,
for a d800 (20 images in a folder more or less 15 minutes).
Rawtherapee the Last one
Which OS, which RT version. Local or remote drive?
Windows 8.1 / rawtherapee 5.12 / local
Hi,
Do you mean it gets slower with each new version of RawTherapee?
Do you mean a thumbnail takes longer to load when that particular image has many editor tools activated? Or do you mean that it slows down when you have more edited images?
What do you mean by “open” and “process”? What exactly are you seeing for each of those?
That’s almost a minute per image. It should take less than that to export a full-resolution image with many resource-intensive tools activated. It’s definitely not normal. On my old laptop, RawTherapee takes 2 seconds to load a folder with hundreds of images.
In Task Manager, what do the CPU, memory, and disk utilization look like while RawTherapee is loading the thumbnails?
1 Yes a little longer with each new version
2 many editing tools activated
3 (the problem is there) All thumbnails load and then Rawtherapee processes the rendering of each thumbnail with the modifications made
4 for all twenty images.
Does it do the same thing for the same images every time you open the folder? Or is it just one time per image?
What does Task Manager show?
Hello, same thing for all images every time.
Sounds like you delete the cache all the time or have no cache at all…
It does look like the cache is broken. Can you check in your cache folder (probably something like C:\Users\<your_username>\AppData\Local\RawTherapee\cache\images
) to see if the thumbnails are there?
Also, what do you see in the Task Manager?
Hello, I think it’s easier with a video. I have to wait each time.
Rawtherapee generate a thumbnail for each photo, and it takes a very long time…
And yes images in cache.
