TIF images with Old-style JPEG (in TIFF) compression are not displayed

My old Canon scanner compresses TIF files with a compression that Irfanview later calls “Old-style JPEG (in TIFF)”.

Rawtherapee ignores these files completely. They are not even shown in the file manager, as if they do not exist.

Could this compression be added to Rawtherapee? It is irritating when you have a folder with these images inside and the folder appears to be empty for Rawtherapee.

Do other jpegs show up?

You could try VueScan, it has a lot of options.

Yes they do. Yes, I could try Vuescan (which I don’t like at all) or just turn compression off for tif files (what I actually do).

But these both ways do not remove that bug in Rawtherapee. It seems to affect other file types, too. While searching for an existing topic with old-style JPGs I found this:

If you feel this is a bug, you’ll want to report it on github, not here.

Please post here if you raise an issue about this in the rawtherapee github repo. If you are not going to do this, then at least attach the problematic file here. I want to check the support of such tiff files in darktable.

Indeed. If it ends up w/ the TIFF loader, should be fine as libtiff should support OJPEG compression (with some hacky assumptions/limitations)…
