I’m not sure whether it’s because I don’t know how to use it, or whether it really isn’t performing as expected. Hence this query to those with more expertise.
In the ‘collection filters’ module, you can set three types of date filters: by day, by month and by time (hours). Let’s just stick to the ‘day’ and ‘hour’ options (I don’t see any significant functional difference between the two).
When you select ‘by date’ or ‘by hour’, a timeline is displayed, where you can select a period by dragging the mouse. So far, so good.
My issue is that the graph displayed as the ‘timeline’ temporarily represents the ENTIRE database, and NOT the date limits specified in the selected collection. As this is within ‘collection filters’, I would expect to see a graph limited to the boundaries of the collection, rather than those of the database. What’s the point of this?
For example, my database runs from 2010 to 2026, and I select a collection covering a few consecutive days in 2025. In that case, I see that the timeline is empty from start to finish, apart from a thin line representing those records. I’d expect it to show, for example, from one day before to one day after, and if I could zoom in (using <Ctrl>+<mouse wheel>) to view them down to the hour and minute, and be able to filter the graph within the selected range. I think that would be much more practical, but that doesn’t work for me. I don’t know.
By expanding the calendar and the hierarchical list on the right, I can select a start and end date. But it’s not very intuitive.
I understand that the general timeline, which is at the bottom of the dashboard, displays the entire database. You can zoom in, select a range and thereby generate a collection restricted to that period, but my question is: shouldn’t the graphical timeline within the collection filters module be restricted to the collection’s data and display the same data as is shown numerically when the list is displayed (to the right of the calendar)?
