Tool options disappeared

Help! My options under the Tools menu seem to have disappeared. I have no idea how to get them back. It feels like this should be an easy setting for me to fix, but I’m not finding it anywhere. I’m expecting it to be where it says “Core Pointer” in this image. This is GIMP 2.10.30 running on Win 10. Can someone help a brother out? Thanks in advance.

Oy there, brother…
W-e-l-l, I just installed that version (but onto Win11),
and I got an unspecified fatal error /wonder which?/.
However, I did get the tool options OK:

I wonder if a re-install would help you?

Yeah, I don’t know what to say. This started not working in 2.10.24, so I upgraded to this version just in case that would help. I did a reset in the Preferences dialogue box, but that didn’t do anything either. My next steps are to restart my machine, then if that’s not successful I will completely uninstall and then reinstall GIMP. I’ll report back here.

Aaaand an uninstall/restart/re-install did absolutely no good. It feels like there should be a setting for this, something checked or unchecked, but tf if I can find it. This is frustrating; I’ve got some work to get done with it today.

If anyone can chime in on this, I’d be grateful.

Aight, here it is. It was available as a dockable dialog on the right side of the window. It was a simple drag and drop back to the left side to get it to where it was before. Not sure how that happened, but it’s fixed now.

Morning, Rick,

I am no windowsian, but should it malfunction again, I believe it would be interesting to run a diff between your sessionrc and mine. You ought to find sessionrc in

Users--whatever–\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\

Ha! I just discovered that the disappearance seems to be a known phenomenon:

Use the little left pointing arrow (just next to the tabs in your screenshot)

Click on it to open the menu and choose Add Tab Top of the tabs list is Tool Options. Select that.

Do your self a favour and same place is a Lock Tab to Dock option. Enable that.
