Hi all,
I wanted to share something I’ve been building that some of you might find useful — especially those who do your own framing or work closely with framers.
Total Frame is a free, browser-based picture framing calculator. It runs entirely in your browser, works on phone or desktop, and is designed to include all the measurements and methods needed to frame a work on paper.
Here’s what it does:
- Frame Priority — give it a frame size, it calculates your mat margins
- Mat Priority — give it artwork dimensions and the margins you want, it tells you what frame to build and gives you the exact moulding cut lengths
- Rabbet Depth — stack up glazing, mat board, spacers, and backing to make sure everything fits in the frame
- Cut List & Tear Sheet — print-ready output pages you can hand to whoever is cutting the mat or keep on file as a job ticket
- Batch Mode — save multiple jobs in one session, reorder them, and export a full multi-page PDF with a tear sheet for every piece
It handles fractional inches down to 1/32″, has a metric mode, supports bottom weighting, golden ratio and optical center margins, window offset for reveal/conceal, sheet size, and more.
I built it because I couldn’t find anything that worked the way I needed it to at the bench. It’s open source and completely free.
Give it a try: https://totalframe.pages.dev
Would love to hear feedback from anyone who uses it — especially if something doesn’t match how you work.
Best,
Chris
