UI Menu/System Font Issues

Has anyone ran into this problem. Suddenly, RawTherapee, Darktable, Gimp… Even FontForge are suddenly displaying what looks to be Tamil in all the UI menus, dropdowns, etc. in OSX (Yes, I know…).

Any suggestions?

Check your gtk3 theme font setting at ~/.config/gtk3/settings.ini (I think)

Or regenerate your font cache: fc-cache -fv

Here was a bug about this over on the GIMP bugzilla, but I can’t seem to find it again now. :frowning: might want to have a search there and see if there was a resolution?

I finally solved the issue. It turns out it was an incorrect font substitution. Somehow Helvetica Fractions was being incorrectly used instead of Helvetica.

  1. First step was to clear the system cache with:
    sudo atsutil databases -remove

  2. Then simply deactivate ‘Helvetica Fractions’
