under development AgX-module

Hello everybody,

I am very late to the party about @kofa’s new implementation of the blender alike AgX module

I used the todays 15th June '25 implementation of agx “ge45dfeddfc”
(again, it is still under devlopment and one has to merge it into current master, using git)

I would like to see, what you guys think and make out of this comparison between my filmic edit and the agx version below.

Me I mainly focus on the area next to the sun. Currently I still like the filmic version a bit more, however, depends on my learning curve and also atm only talking about this extreme dynamic range pic. I know there is other scenarios like concerts, where the story easily looks different.

Please only based on agx, to avoid we talk about my (not very high) general edit capabilites with filmic or default-what-ever.

Non-compressed history stack would be appreciated, so one could learn

Here is my filmic-implementation

and here is the related xmp-file:

Finally this is my current agx version (after playing with agx for ~2h)

and here is the related xmp-file:

and a side by side (filmic left)

and a short comparing video (filmic left)

It would be my honor, if @s7habo also joins in

And here comes the NEF:

  • There is no such version (unless you merged additional code into it).
  • The NEF file is missing, you only provided sidecars.

OK, I see. You don’t need to merge it into master, I merge master into my branch regularly. The post you mentioned says that explicitly:

Includes all changes from master, up to and including commit f7da3ef4 (so version gf7da3ef4).

I think both of your versions are pretty nice. Here’s another option.

Just wait until @Popanz arrives. He’s the master of photos with a ‘pop’.

I find the light intensity of the sun and its reflection on the water very important in this scene:

as always a very intersting approach.

why in the last added module, you chose color balance rgb to brighten globally but exposure module?

As usual you don’t have to wait that long, when there is a Play RAW. Enough pop? :joy:

mega interessting history, still digesting

This is only global offset. This makes the shadows a little lighter.

A darker version with a simple stack.

@Popanz used modules where Arélien all the time told us, they are evil, LoL

They are there, so why don’t use them. :innocent:
It is like with poisons. It’s a question of the right dose. If you use it in the right amount it’s medicine, using to much of it it kills. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

More dramatic and colorized version :

I am not as dogmatic as AP is, but somtimes a little

A little bit off-topic:
I wish I would have an overlay, where I can show a slected tag to descriminate

Another version:

@Popanz I have diffuculties to understand how you can make it
I click the history from bottom to top and you switch on agx almost at the end. Hard for me to imagine, the steps in between how you judge the effects, which will be at the end.

Finally I go to the list of active modules and click the module on and off one by one to see what happens

The history isn’t in the order I really used the modules. I did final adjustments on AgX very late and I used compress history. So I think that’s the reason, why it is in the end of the order. But without compression It would have been three or four times in history. So I fear my history isn’t really describing the order I do my edits. AgX was activated at the very beginning.
