Under the Grafton Bridge

Bit of a weird one this. :upside_down_face:
I took it as I was quite impressed with the line of pillars supporting the bridge and the slightly eerie atmosphere, including the text on the pillar.
After processing I was quite enamored of the general result, but after a bit more thought and feedback from others I’m not so sure!
Interested if you feel like you can make something out of it or if it’s one to put in the ‘interesting - maybe next time’ box.

I got here with a couple of ideas and found that @marter and @Popanz had already arrived with similar ideas! I got rid of the first pair of supports and the foreground distractions in front of them (except I didn’t bother to tidy up some edges on the right hand side), and went monochrome to give it a gritty look. Crappy edit, but hey, it’s my first cup of coffee!

Hello,

Thanks for sharing, you motivate me to work more in black and white. Here is my proposal, I tried to play on the contrast vs the graphics of the shot. I tried to draw the eye first to the lawn and then to the inside of the bridge.

I was drawn to the writing in the bottom right corner so I cropped to draw attention to that. I just had a play with the settings for fun. Nice phone camera to allow such a harsh crop.

Thanks all! That’s a lovely set of different approaches. Hard to choose…
@Popanz’s version has particularly interesting tonality.
Love the colours in @dqpcoxeas’ version.

Yes, I was too… but wasn’t sure how to use it.

The X30 camera isn’t half bad - doesn’t have the best reviews, but that seems to be more about the ‘smart’ stuff, i.e. the auto HDR is prone to ghosting for example.
But I have no complaints at all about the lens and sensor, which is really all that matters. AE/AF is fine too.
I do sometimes long for a longer focal length though! But hey, that’s what my real cameras are for.
