What has happened to my GIMP. I have reinstalled but still get an unusable software

That is macos. This has been reported as a bug but one possible solution is on this forum

Thanks but no joy. I think it’s all to do with Ventura upgrade. Why-oh-why do people fix things that ain’t broke?
