I was flying my drone over a small river when it was surrounded by a flock of birds (swallows I think) who were largely uninterested in it. I wasn’t able to capture a photo that really conveyed what I was seeing but all the same, I think it’s an unusual shot in rather beautiful surronds.
It’s also the first time I’ve worked with a raw out of this drone (a DJI Mavic Mini 4 Pro for reference) and I found it a little harder to work with than the raws out of my Sony A5100 though I’m not able to pin down why; I particularly had issues balancing the detail in the relatively dark foliage against the slightly cloudy sky.
This is my attempt using RawTherapee 5.10 release and would be interested to see what else might be done with it. DJI_20250304160413_0034_D.DNG (18.2 MB)
I really like @david effort in GIMP but I presume another program had to convert the DNG into a format that GIMP could edit. Which program was the inbetween?
I found this DNG hard to edit in DT. I suspect there is a lot of editing done in the drone before saving the DNG. For instance, denoising was a challenge on this image. DJI_20250304160413_0034_D.DNG.xmp (26.0 KB)
I converted the DNG with Filmulator - my goto for raws. Then into GIMP. I am still using 2.10.38 as I have my plug-ins, several of which were used on this image.
Hi all,
for my first entry here, I’ve tried to be as respectful as possible of the luminosity differences between the sky and the vegetation, just a slight rebalancing of the zones, as well as a little work on the misty background, without neutralizing it completely.
I found there was too much information in the image, so I cropped it to highlight the birds, then ran it through Upscayl and resized it to fit the forum.
Hello everyone! My first post - and jumping right in with an edit. I switched to darktable two weeks ago and I love it. For this edit, I wanted to maintain a mostly natural look. I warmed up the white balance slightly and used the tone equalizer to add a bit more depth to the image. Added a subtle vignette and of course the 1:1 crop, which felt fitting due to the birds on the left side. Maybe the shadow on the river in the lower left could be lifted a bit to bring the river more into the lower center - creating a more emphasized curve that could help balance the image further.
Just want to say thanks all for your different takes; I’ve learnt something from every version (including that I need to take DarkTable and ART out for a spin and figure out what AgX is!)
