Using clone left control key does not work

Running GIMP 2.10.21 on Linux Mint 21.3
When using the clone tool I have to use the right hand control key to select the source, if I use the left control it does not work. Is that normal? It took me several frustrated hours to discover it.

Both Ctrl keys work for me on 2.10.34 (Kubuntu 24.04 on XWindow). Is it the only tool where that Control key is non-functional?

Ctrl click in clone and heal have this problem. I just tried some others, Ctrl P, Ctrl Z, CtrlY, Ctrl C, Ctrl V, Ctrl , , Ctrl. , Ctrl ; , Ctrl M, all seem to work OK. There may be others, my knowledge of GIMP is rather limited.

I mean Ctr-click elsewhere. I suspect Clone and Heal have a lot of common code, but you can also Ctrl-click an anchor in the Path tool to pull the tangent handles. And even without the click, in the Rectangle and Ellipse selection tool, depressing Ctrl while dragging shoud toggle the “Expand from center” behavior.

Ctrl keys both work in Rectangle and Ellipse select to expand from centre, however using ctrl as shortcut to add to the selection work for right ctrl but not left.
In the path tool pulling handles only work with right Ctrl.
